Welcome to another module breakdown blog post! So far, I have done 9 posts in this little series on my blog. Essentially, I break down each module and look at it in detail so if you are doing this module, or something very similar, then you know what to expect!

Year 2 Modules
This module breakdown post is on Tort Law. Without further ado, let’s get to it!

Content
Tort Law looks at the area of law that allows people to seek compensation. It is a civil wrong that causes a claimant to suffer loss or harm. Particular areas we looked at are negligence, nuisance, trespass, occupier’s liability, vicarious liability, defamation and privacy to name a few.
Lectures
Lectures occurred twice a week in semester two, with each lecture being 2 hours long. The first 4 weeks of lectures was with one lecturer, and then the rest of the lectures were with another lecturer, so I had two in total. Both of them were incredible.
We looked at one topic per lecture apart from negligence, which was a huge topic. That took 3 weeks to get through, as we had lectures on medical negligence and psychiatric harm.
These lectures were very different to my lectures in semester one. They were very interactive which I really liked. I feel like it encourages you to think about the content from an analytical point of view.
Tutorials
There were 6 tutorials in total for Tort Law throughout semester two. We had to do a lot of preparation for each one, which included answering questions about the content and either planning or attempting different essay questions or problem questions. These tutorials were very interactive, which I really liked.
Assessments
There were 2 assessments for Tort Law. The first was an essay assignment on duty of care in negligence. It was a 2500 word essay and worth 40% of the overall module. I really enjoyed researching for this assignment and I did well which is good.
The second assessment was an exam which was worth 60% of the module. There were 2 questions that we had to answer, with one being an essay question and one being a problem question. It was a good exam and I liked the topics we got given.
Overall Thoughts
I adored Tort Law. It was probably my favourite module of semester two. It was an absolutely fascinating module which was also really heartbreaking at times. There were a few times we were told that a lecture’s content might be heavy and that was certainly the case. Nonetheless, it was a fantastic module with two brilliant lecturers.
And that’s it! Thank you for reading and I will see you soon for another blog post.
Beth
