Welcome to another blog post. Today’s post is going to be about my optional modules that I have chosen for my third and final year at university. It’s actually the first time I’ve been able to pick modules for my degree, as first and second year were full of compulsory modules.
I thought long and hard about the modules I wanted to pick as I believe it is really important to do something that interests you and also has a good impact on your future career aspirations. I created a notion page with all of the details about each module and the pros and cons for choosing it.
I had to pick four modules for this year, with three being law modules and one being a politics module.
The modules I have chosen for my third and final year at university are:
- Family Law
- Organised Crime and Counter-Terrorism
- Media Law
- Criminal Evidence
Let’s get into each one.
Family Law
Family Law is a module that I have wanted to do since I decided to do law at university. The fact that we’re essentially surrounded by the law that governs our families makes it so fascinating to me. I also have a little bit of experience through my time at Citizens Advice which I really enjoyed. When I was reading the overview of the module, I was really interested in the fact that vulnerable individuals were mentioned predominantly. I am someone that really values diversity and assuring everyone has equal rights so I am really looking forward to this module.
Organised Crime and Counter-Terrorism
Organised Crime and Counter-Terrorism is my optional module for the Politics side of my degree. I decided to pick this module as it sounds absolutely fascinating to me. I also feel like it’s really connected to law which I really like. I also like how relevant it is in today’s society which is sad when you think about it but it is interesting.
Media Law
Media law is probably the module I am most excited for. I decided to pick this as it closely relates to what I want for my future career aspirations. If I could go into a career in media law, I would be very happy. There are lots of areas of media law I am looking forward to delving into, particularly privacy and defamation which I looked at briefly in Tort Law.
Criminal Evidence
Criminal Evidence is another module I am excited to look at. I studied Criminal Law in my second year of university and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ve always found crime an interesting area, which first started when I looked at crime and deviance in sociology during my A Levels. I’m really looking forward to focusing on a particular area of criminal law.
And that’s it! Thank you very much for reading and I will see you soon for another blog post.
