How to Use Your Bullet Journal to Manage Your Time

I have used a Bullet Journal since 2017, and I feel it is such a beneficial tool to have at your disposal. The variety of spreads involved, and the flexibility and creativity within the system, makes it a useful planning tool for managing your time. Today I want to share the ways you can use your Bullet Journal to manage your time. Let’s get to it.

Timeblocking

Time blocking is something I use very frequently. I mainly tend to use it for revision purposes at university. Time blocking is where you schedule every part of the day and assign tasks to each amount of time. The only thing I’m not so keen on with time blocking is it can be quite restrictive. Life is very unpredictable so I can find it quite annoying and disheartening if I can’t stick to the schedule I’ve created. Regardless, I still like to use it every so often.

Time boxing

Time boxing is something I like to use frequently. This is where you limit a certain task to a specific amount of time. I like to do tasks in 20 minute intervals with 10 minute breaks.

I don’t tend to document this per se in my bullet journal. I just have a to-do list and tackle the tasks in 20 minute intervals. This works really well for me.

Time tracking

This is something I haven’t done for a while but it can be very useful. Essentially, you track where your time is going so you know where you need to improve. I think this is a brilliant thing to start with before you move on to different techniques to organise your time.

Kanban board

I think Kanban boards are an absolutely brilliant visual way to keep track of projects. Essentially, you create a table with different parts of a project. To explain this better, let’s say I’m completing essays for university. Each part of the board would be the different stages that you go through to complete an essay. For example, these could be planning, researching, 1st draft, 2nd draft, editing, submit etc.

I do this in my journal by relying on good old post it notes to move the project along the board within my journal.

And that’s it! I hope you thought this was useful for you and it gave you some ideas on ways you can organise your time with your bullet journal. As always, thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to read this post and I will see you soon for another one.
