Year 3 Modules
This module breakdown post is on Organised Crime and Counter-Terrorism. Let’s get to it!
Content
Organised Crime and Counter-Terrorism was a module that essentially the Politics part of my degree! In terms of the content, we looked at organised crime, county lines, terrorism and obviously counter-terrorism, police powers and legislation, policing terrorism and radicalisation. The content was really interesting and something I thoroughly enjoyed learning about.
Lectures
In terms of the lecture structure, there was one lecture a week that was 2 hours long. These only happened in semester one, and were sort of a mix between a stereotypical lecture and a seminar or tutorial. There were a lot of discussions and even group work at times! It was sort of similar to a few of my law lectures but with more group work.
Seminars
There were no seminars/tutorials/workshops or whatever you want to call them. It was purely the once a week lecture.
Assignments
For this module, I had 2 assignments and neither of them were an exam! I was very happy about that.
The first assignment was worth 40% of the module and was a threat report on a particular organised group of our choice. This was 2000 words and was due halfway in the module.
The second assignment was worth 60% and was a normal essay worth 3000 words. We had a choice between a variety of questions and I remember all of them being really interesting.
Overall Thoughts
Overall, I enjoyed this module. I thought the content itself was fascinating and the lecturer was really good. I did like it and would recommend it to those doing criminology or something along those lines.
And that’s it! Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to read this post and I will see you for another one!
Beth
