Welcome to another module breakdown post for my master’s degree! So far, I have done just one module breakdown post. You can check that out below!
This module breakdown is on Mental Health Law. Let’s get to it!
Content
Like for Medical Law, this module had 10 units. Of course, this included an introductory unit but the others were as follows:
- Relationship between Mental Health and Society
- Mental Health Law and Employment
- Psychiatric Harm
- Capacity and Consent for Adults
- Children and Welfare
- Sectioning and Detention
- Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
- Community Care and Control
- Challenging Mental Health Treatment and Decisions
Workshops
Workshops for this module occurred once a week. Each of them were two hours long, and like always, each workshop focused on one unit. Again, they were very interactive. There were questions we had to prepare for each workshop, and they were the basically the focal point, In other words, if you didn’t do the workshop preparation, you weren’t going to get anything beneficial out of them.
Assessment
There was just one way we were assessed for this module. This was an exam. It was three hours long and we had to answer three questions out of a choice of five. Again, this is very similar to medical law. There were a mix of essay and problem questions too.
Overall Thoughts
Overall, I really enjoyed Mental Health Law. It was a really thought-provoking subject with a lot of debate and discussion. I really liked how it linked to medical law and I would find it really intriguing if my career ventured into this area.
And that’s it! Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to read this post and I will see you soon for another one!
