Welcome to another blog post! Today I’m sharing a post related to university. By the time this post has been published, I would have completed my LLM in Medical Law and Ethics! During my time completing the degree, there were definitely things that I wish I knew before starting and I’m going to share those with you all today. I hope this post can be useful for some of you and without further ado, let’s get to it!
1) Get ahead
Like my undergraduate law degree, there is a lot of content. Getting ahead in terms of the reading assignments will make your life so much easier. There were times where I did get overwhelmed. Thankfully, I was able to overcome those times but getting ahead and maintaining organisation will help.
2) The jump between undergraduate and postgraduate is not that big
One of the things that I was really concerned about was wondering whether the gap was going to be massive between my undergraduate degree and my postgraduate degree. Thankfully, the gap wasn’t that big. Sure, more is expected of you but it wasn’t as much as I was expecting.
3) The structure
Even though I had done research on what to expect, I was still a little surprised. I was expecting it to be very independent. Yes, there was independency but there was a clear structure of prepare, engage and consolidate through each module which I really liked.
4) Read everything on the reading list
Reading lists are such a useful tool at university regardless of it being an undergraduate or postgraduate degree. These have been picked for a reason so even skimming through the additional content is a must for helping with future assignments.
5) Doing an undergraduate dissertation would have helped
Even though I did not struggle with my dissertation (although I am still completing it at the time of writing this post), I feel like completing one at undergraduate level would have massively helped. It would have given me an idea on what to expect, the structure, what is expected of me etc. I don’t regret not doing it but part of me does wonder how I would feel now.
And that’s it! Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to read this post and I will see you soon for another one.
Beth
