Welcome to another blog post!
I have been working part-time as a barista for nearly 4 years now. It’s something that works really well for me. However, I do often wonder why I haven’t moved to full-time work within my job. After all, it would give me more money. I’ve come to accept though that part-time works best for me. Here are 4 reasons why.
It Gives Me a Chance to Focus on My Next Steps
For those of you that are unaware, my career aspirations lie within medical law. If I had a full-time job, I don’t think I’d have enough time to look into what my next steps are to get there. I have time to look at jobs, explore what it is I want to do and think about my future.
I Don’t Get Overtired
Being a barista is not simple. It is demanding and can be exhausting at times. I feel like if I went full-time, I would burn myself out. I currently work 24 hours a week and even that can feel exhausting. I’m currently working 8 days in a row at the time of writing and that is a struggle. Ok, I know that goes against working part-time but let me explain myself. Our working weeks go from Friday to Thursday and it’s a structure where the week before was the last 4 days and the next week was the first 4 days. Does that make sense? I hope it does.
I’m Not Constantly Thinking About Work
I guess this is kind of similar to the previous point. During these 8 days, my mind has just constantly been thinking about work. On days off, I can breathe and chill and think about other things which is nice.
I Have Time For Me
Once again, I feel like this relates to previous points but you get the idea. I really enjoy times where I can just relax and focus on what I want. I love to journal, get creative and read and watch different things so having that time is important to me.
And that’s it! Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to read this post and I will see you soon for another one!
Beth
